Band/instrumental music specialist
courses are offered to grades 6-12. This system is widely used in International Schools
and schools in the USA
and allows students to learn an instrument in a classroom setting, to earn
academic credit, and to perform in and out of school. Students may earn
financial aid through a music scholarship at a university in the USA
upon completion of the band program, regardless of which subject they will
study as a major.
No previous experience in music is
necessary to join the entry level course. Any interested child with a normal
level of coordination, discipline, and team skills can join. Based on
personal preference, an interview/aptitude test and group composition,
students may learn one of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet,
bass clarinet, alto/ tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, bass
guitar, and percussion. There are no extra costs for private lessons;
parents can purchase the instrument, accessories, uniform and books through
ISC.
The music programs are taught by
Mrs. Barbara Stief and Mr. Thomas Stief, who are trained in Europe and the USA
and have extensive experience teaching at International Schools in different
parts of the world.
