Music Programs at ISC

Research shows that active involvement in music can have a very positive influence on the social, personal and academic/intellectual development of children. ISC offers an extensive music program to its students.  Students from Kindergarten through grade 5 take General Music. In grades 6-12 students have the option to continue General Music or join the Band Program.

General Music

Students have the opportunity to:

1. Explore their talent in performing and creating music

2Explore and appreciate a variety of musical styles

3Venture into acting and drama production

4Develop a concept of the workings and elements of music

5Develop team skills and supportive audience behavior

The Band Program

Band/instrumental music specialist courses are offered to grades 6-12. This system is widely used in International Schools and schools in the USA and allows students to learn an instrument in a classroom setting, to earn academic credit, and to perform in and out of school. Students may earn financial aid through a music scholarship at a university in the USA upon completion of the band program, regardless of which subject they will study as a major.

No previous experience in music is necessary to join the entry level course. Any interested child with a normal level of coordination, discipline, and team skills can join. Based on personal preference, an interview/aptitude test and group composition, students may learn one of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto/ tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, bass guitar, and percussion.  There are no extra costs for private lessons; parents can purchase the instrument, accessories, uniform and books through ISC.

The music programs are taught by Mrs. Barbara Stief and Mr. Thomas Stief, who are trained in Europe and the USA and have extensive experience teaching at International Schools in different parts of the world.
